MUST READ BEFORE PURCHASING
Found an AD on Craigslist for a low mile 2011 Range Rover HSE. Texted Mike and they were eager to show me the vehicle within the same day. It was right before closing but they made time and I did a short drive. Something didn't make me free 100% good about it so I slept on it for the weekend. Monday morning I messaged Mike that I would be coming in to buy it in full. No Financing. Mike had indicated that this car has been sitting with them since 8 months prior and he is taking a lost on it.
I came in Monday with a Cashier's check with the amount they indicated, transaction was fairly brief. He gave me the keys and stated it is an "AS IS" sale and that was that. No car wash. Empty tank of gas.
I drove the car to get lunch and as I parked and tried to lock the car, driver door would not lock. I immediately tried to call Mike and tell him about it and he said he didn't know anything about it. That was when I really went deep into the car and found out it was definitely in worse shape before they "pretty it up". Mike said to bring the car back and he will take care of the lock, but at that point I felt I couldn't trust the dealership. He did order the part which was less than $200 and gave it to me, I installed it myself.
Less than 1 week into it, I noticed clunky noise on right passenger side. I took it to the shop and mechanic went thru the car and it needed new right axle, both front control arms, front and rear breaks and 2 new tires. Also the roof was heavily oxidated, the detailer only touched the areas he could reach. Dog chewed up one of the arm rest which was neatly tucked. Interior looked great, but if you really look close they must have refurbished it with leather dye/paint. I assumed because of the low miles it would be good deal but things just don't feel right.
My point about this post is to do a better job at inspecting the car in detail. Test every window, every lock, open each hatch, etc. Press the alarm. I thought dealerships would do a better job preparing their cars for the next owner but they aren't obligated to do so. Be especially aware when it is an "AS IS". At a minimum they should provide or offer a 30-day warranty. They just make it pretty enough to pass the common eye. I've spent $2600 in additional cost since buying this car from them 1 week into ownership.
Mike is a Nice guy. Never once gave me attitude but I think they are in the business of selling cars at any cost.
