This hotel is new and modern. There is no carpeting in the room. The bathrooms are modern and the shower had HOT water and plenty of it. There is a microwave, coffee and tea, and a safe. Breakfast was free and included oat milk for my coffee! That and a bagel, peanut butter, jam, and an orange made for a great breakfast. There were eggs, turkey sausages, and potatoes too. I really appreciated the feel and the amenities.
Yes, Oakland is not what we remembered or expected. We did walk around at night and jogged around Lake Merritt in the morning. We walked along the SF Bay trail in the Jack London area during the day. You can do it.
There are not many food or entertainment options near the hotel. Parking is extra but we used Bart which works well. There's also a ferry to SF in the Jack London area.
I just want to thank Yoselin & Emerson and the valet drivers as a whole. I've stayed here 3 times now I believe & since the very first time they've been so amazing towards me & my boyfriend. We stay here every time my boyfriend comes to visit me.
They first time was super late too, because the other hotel I originally had in mind was not helpful & rude. I called the AC hotel at like 1am and Emerson was so helpful and nice even me making a super last minute reservation. They're both just amazing, Yoselin always helps me if I need to extend my stay or if I need a later check out. She's the sweetest. <3
& the valet drivers ofc my boyfriend thanks them always keeping his car safe, driving it respectfully and all. I appreciate them all, I will be booking again very soon.
Pros: my room was extremely quiet, like shockingly quiet. There was road noise from outside, but I never heard any other guests. Excellent blackout curtains, maybe the best I’ve experienced in all my travels. Bed was comfy (and I’ve had back surgery so that’s saying something).
Cons: seems to be designed to cater to men. All the toiletries smelled like men’s products. There was no lotion or makeup wipes like you find in most hotels. The toilet was pretty high off the floor. The in-room lighting sucked. It never felt bright enough, even with the blinds open during the day. The staff were … interesting. During breakfast I could hear staff in the back using the F word. During checkin I overheard staff saying something was “bullshit”. I put in the Bonvoy app for early checkin but had to wait almost 2 hrs for a room.
Overall: I would actually (and probably will) stay there again. But would love to see updated toiletries.
