I knew I needed help in Design to make our house into a home we loved now but could live in comfortably as we age. Over the course of Summer 2021, I called several local Interior Designers, but they were either too busy, not very helpful on the phone, or just didn't call back. I found Adra’s website, liked her reviews, in particular the comments on her proficiency with colors, so called her. She called back immediately and arranged to meet with us at our home. She was professional, knowledgeable, and a no BS straight shooter; she wasn’t put off by my demeanor (after several remodels over the years, I know what I want and what I don’t, so don’t try to convince me otherwise, lol.) and I knew immediately that we would work well together. I was most impressed when Adra asked to see the blueprints that we had; she sat right down with them, going over them with her Architects scale. Turned out, She’s an Architect too, by degree. What a great advantage. She revised the plans, utilizing every square foot of both the addition and the existing floor plan, giving me everything I asked for and more. Office Area with desk, mudroom, custom kitchen (Didn’t think we could afford it, we were going to reuse our old cabinets), beautiful big Island with second sink, (I told her I thought only ‘rich’ people had two sinks in the kitchen, lol.) clear story windows, and more. She took the list of materials that we had already purchased fitting the design to use as much of the materials as possible, saving us a ton. Now to Interior Design. My décor was early 2000’s. I wanted to modernize; my demands; it needed to be functional and comfortable but look great and have a touch of whimsy. Adra led the way, helping us pick out every finish material, kitchen to baths, Bedrooms to custom closets. While I thought I wanted to stick with greens, Adra came up with the most beautiful navy blue and black glaze cabinet color for our Island (and I thought I didn’t want blue, ha). It is such a gorgeous show piece and one of the most useful and used spaces in the house. She designed it perfectly, so it is not only part of our kitchen, but works seamlessly with our living room. Adra supported my ‘find’ of a sweet little pink dresser I found at a secondhand shop to use as a vanity in my ‘girly’ powder room, and then found the perfect white subway tiles and pink and grey accent marble tiles to match. The wall color she proposed was spot on and I love the room almost as much as our little Pomchi, Pooh Bear, does (seriously, see pics!) I must advise everyone, listen to Adra's advice on wall colors. If we’d listened to her the first time and gone the darker shade she recommended (we chose a lighter shade) we would have saved money and not had to repaint. Lesson learned, Adra knows her colors. She also picked out the perfect blue for the exterior of our home, matching it perfectly with our new exterior accent stone, which, (surprise, surprise, not) she helped us choose. I could go on and on, but I think I already have, (and Google won’t let me use many more characters) so I’ll just add some pictures to help everyone see what can be accomplished working with such a gifted and talented professional as Adra Barlow.
Adra Barlow did a major Interior Architectural Design in a 1980s penthouse over looking Coeur d’Alene Lake in downtown Coeur d’Alene. The plumbing and electrical was very old and had to be replaced. Adra also assisted in selecting paint colors, window treatments, flooring, cabinets, appliances, lights and lighting placement, carpet, granite, tile, furniture and fabrics. She is a wealth of knowledge and resources. I throughly enjoyed working her. There were major design challenges that Adra had to solve and she did with complete confidence and professionalism. I would recommend Adra Barlow to anyone for her services. I not only admire her as a professional but as a very enjoyable person to work with and be around. She turned a dated penthouse and turned it into a dream come true. Janice F Claridge
