If you are on the search for a place to learn paragliding, THIS IS THE ONE! If you have been flying in the past and "just want to refresh your skills" (I've been flying in the past but had a very long break), THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE TO RESTART (and get rid of old bad habits)!
Why? Their "Ranch" is the best and safest playground to learn: no obstacles like trees or power lines, long landing zones that are forgiving even if you misjudge the approach, multiple launches to accommodate different wind directions and intensities, a comfortable bunk house that serves as school/classroom, community space, kitchen, and accommodation (if you want to spend multiple days with other students and instructors).
While that alone deserves five stars, I'd like to add five more stars (if google would let me) for their team of instructors! They are an extremely friendly, calm and competent team, composed of instructors of various ages, all highly experienced, and all watching out for your/our/my safety. We never flew in any uncomfortable air, always perfectly suitable for our current skill set, and perfectly timed mid-day breaks to wait out the rougher air. After every break, an instructor did a test/demo flight to verify the actual conditions in the air. I always felt well taken care of, never pushed but just challenged enough to improve my skills, always with honest and constructive feedback. I did ~45 flights and they helped me improve on each and every one of those 45.
From one who just finished his P2 course: I may have finished a paragliding course, but what I really got was way beyond basic flying skills: a family of friends, instructors and fellow students alike, a great training, lots of guidance on how to safely progress from here, and a very strong desire to go back to "the Ranch" for further practice, feedback, and time with my new friends.
Special thanks to Denise, Chad, Chelsea, and all the volunteers who helped on various occasions.
This is my first ever review on google because this school deserves it like no other.
Aerial Paragliding is the place to learn to fly! Located in beautiful Eastern Washington mountains, the whole experience feels like a summer camp.
You can expect to fly on your first day if the weather allows! From there every day you learn a new skill, paragliding theory, and proper equippment handling.
Denise and Chad are award winning instructors who will guide you step by step on your paragliding journey with confidence, attention to detail, and overall positive attitude. These people are fun to be around.
You can customize the course that fits your schedule. Do it in one shot or distribute it over multiple weeks. For multi-day trip you can stay in comfortable bunkhouse conveniently locatted near the training hill where you can hang out with fellow paragliding students and instructors.
And finally, the place offers breathtaking scenery and ambience. Flying over grassy hills with grazing deer family with fresh born baby deers hopping near by you when you land is what you can experience here.
For anyone who wants to learn to paraglide, this is the best place to do it!
Life is Better Over the Mountains
My paragliding adventure began with an email. Two days later, I was flying!
I was fortunate to receive instruction from four different mentors over 15 days, logging nearly 100 flights in spectacular weather. Each flying day started early, heading up the hill shortly after 8:00 am. Lunch breaks were timed with peak thermal activity, allowing us to observe rated pilots thermaling above Tibbets Mountain. The bunk house accommodations were comfortable, and the kitchen was well-equipped. If you have any cooking skills, be sure to share with Chino and Paulina, amazing pilots with a wealth of knowledge, best shared over dinner.
It's been nearly a year since I completed my P2 course, and looking back, my only regret is not signing up 10 years earlier.
