If you are looking for a modest neighborhood seafood grill, then this is definitely the place for you. There is no fancy menu or plating. But everything is guaranteed fresh and delicious. If you go before 7 pm between Wednesday and Saturday, then they would offer an over the top deal of a three course meal for $17.50. Only $17.50!!! A choice of salad or soup of the day, fish of the day, and a dessert. It’s a crazy good deal especially when we all are feeling the weight of inflation everywhere.
I went with my family of four. We ordered two of the three course meal deal, and two others of our choice. I also ordered the mussels as the appetizer, only 14 dollars!! The mussels were fresh and juicy. I don’t usually like mussels but this time I have to lick my plate. They offered complimentary bread and olive oil pesto dip. I also ordered a poached pear salad. The soup of the day was mushroom. And I remembered last time I had lobster bisque. I mean, the lobster bisque was part of the $17.50 meal deal! Unbelievable! The other day I went to a food truck and ordered a lobster bisque and they charged me $19 just for that soup! And the flavor was nothing compare to what Alamo Square offered.
So let’s talk about the fish. They offered different ways to cook the fish. I personally prefer blackened. We had salmon, snapper and sole fish. My favorites are the salmon and snapper. They also offered a variety of sauces to go with the fish. I think the best are either the hollandaise cream sauce or the garlic butter. I also want to say that the fish without the sauce would be just as perfect!
For desserts I had the tiramisu and the crème brûlée. Both were great choices. The tiramisu is just as good as the one I got from Italian town. The crème brûlée is huge! I also got a coffee to go with the dessert.
Here is the plus: the owner is fun and kind. We chatted for a little bit and he joked about wanting to hire my husband to work there. He gave us two free upgrades for our desserts that came with the meal deal. When he asked me whether I would return next week, I genuinely felt he wanted to see us again. And honestly, most if not all restaurants are raising their prices due to the crazy inflation. I have yet to meet one who has not done that, everyone except Alamo square seafood grill. I don’t know why the owner won’t choose to raise prices, but my guess is that he just want to continue to serve his neighborhood with all that he can. If any of you are dining out and thinking to support local business in SF Bay Area, please check out this place. As for me, I will definitely return.
