I highly recommend Amy's daycare. I found the daycare on Yelp and my son has been there for two years, since he was 5 months old.
Sensitive and emotionally available caregiving - My son loves Amy and her assistant, and they demonstrate their love to him. To me, this strong emotional bond is priceless and has helped shape his socio-emotional development and well-being. My son is a happy, active, sociable and perceptive boy, which is part of temperament but also a reflection on the way he's cared both at home and at Amy's. He's also very gentle with younger children and infants, which I credit Amy for.
Free play and circle time - Playtime is loose and allows for children's exploration and spontaneity. They offer different materials and textures for the kids to play - play doe, water play (on warm days), bubbles, chalk, etc. There is circle time in the morning when Amy reads to the kids and they learn songs, numbers, colors, shapes, etc. My son's favorite is "opposites." They typically play outside in the morning and in the afternoon for over an hour each time. The backyard is spacious and grassy and kids love to run around.
A real open-door policy - The doors are always unlocked, so you can get in at any time and see what's going on! No need to knock on the door. If you happen to go at different times (which I have done tons of times!), you will see that kids are only on high chairs during meal time, and they are off the chair playing when the meal is done. TV is on during meal time but not on times of the day.
Clean and safe environment - The children's area is separate from the house and has tons of natural light. The playroom/eating area has access to the backyard, there are two dedicated bedrooms for naps (one of them for infants only) and a dedicated bathroom. The place is clean and organized. When my son was an infant, they kept a journal about his eating and bowel movements.
Each child gets the sleep they need - Smaller kids have their individual nap schedules. Once kids are older and only nap once a day, they start nap together after lunch, but don't have a specific time to wake up.
Amy makes it easy for working parents - Amy provides breakfast, snacks and homemade lunch. We can also leave diapers, wipes, change of clothes there, instead of bringing them every day. This makes my morning routine so easy. However, if you would prefer bringing your own food, you could do that.
It's a community - During pick-up time, the children are playing on the backyard and Amy allows parents to hang out and play with the them. So, we get to know the other children and their parents, creating a sense of community amongst the families. Additionally, last year Amy co-hosted a holiday party with one of the parents, which we helped to make a connection with parents with different schedules.
This review is long overdue. Amy has become family to me, and she really cares about the children. I recommend you that visit Amy's daycare and make your own conclusions.
