I had a strange return phone call from a receptionist at Anderson Landscaping who only wanted to tell me in.. as calm and slow motion of vocal delivery as she could (as to suggest "Don't get pissed off with what I'm going to tell you since the content doesn't exactly match this pretend compassion or lack of rational I'm about to dish to you". She states at the start of the conversation without sharing any conversation first, "I think you need to call other landscapers because we wouldn't even have time until next month". But she was so caught up in entertaining herself with this feigned compassionate "speak" does she kept tumbling forward with phrases that sounded equally irrational and disingenuous. I heard enough to realize this woman probably doesn't even back up what she is saying so I actually had to intervene her self hypnotic ramblings and state in response, " next month is just fine then since I actually haven't had any responses from other busy landscapers to whom I made approximately 26 phone calls and left messages at this morning. She quickly changed it to explain all the big projects they do, and how busy of a company they are as though that would somehow diminish my desire to set an appointment that she just herself into. I let her know that if you are willing you can still make that appointment with me. I'm just looking to get an appointment on the books since it is the busy season for landscapers and I'm not getting any return phone calls yet. Then she just says "We don't even have time to come by", despite what she had just mentioned a moment ago. And I asked what happened to that availability next month and then she just gave me something more tangible, less disingenuous, and the mask came off. She simply said, "I don't think we can do any service for you". Just from me calmly keeping her on track. Keeping her in the spirit of her own conversation. I found it amazing that she had only made three or four quick statements and I got a chance to make three or four also but she was talking so slow with such the intent to pretend she's being so sincere that those brief sentences above actually were timed at 2 minutes and 28 seconds in the length of the phone call. She accomplished displaying, singularity, just an attempt to save face for the company by returning a phone call and saying we are all booked up but pedaling backwards when after stating to the customer that they have no availability till the next month was met with "I will take that appointment then". She stumbled through some reply about "Chances are that they won't even have time next month" and when I asked about getting my name down on a wait list or anything so she could call me back when there is availability she tells me "We have nothing for you". I couldn't be more happy that she is representing the company at first contact since, who needs vendors that fake this genuine concern and manipulate intent in conversation and ultimately show what little industriousness they ultimately have. I would hate to learn this about them once they've tore up my yard for landscaping and suddenly their work ethic fails and they can't stand behind what they make claims of as early as one sentence prior.
