AT&T Sonora Deceptive Business Practices 133 Old Wards Ferry Rd Ste C, Sonora, CA 95370
UPDATE: THE STORE WAS EMAILED ON TUESDAY JULY 30 AS REQUESTED AND HAS NOT RESPONDED.
The salesmen at this store are deceptive and lied to us. We were told by Matt R that if we bought a Samsung Galaxy 24, we would get a watch and a tablet for free. We would only need to pay the activation fees and taxes one time. We were told a number for each device would be reflected on the bill to charge the activation fee, and then would be immediately removed. We asked repeatedly if there were any monthly payments or contracts involved and Matt R repeatedly told us no.
A couple of months later and we're being charged monthly for a plan on a tablet that we never use and that we were told we didn't need and wouldn't be charged for. In total, this plan will cost us over $1200 TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($35/month over 3 years) for a Galaxy Tab A9 that retails for less than $200.
After being told there would be no recurring charges over and over again. The store now says there is nothing they can do.
I doubt they could provide any documents of us agreeing to this huge amount, and if we did, that signature was also obtained deceptively.
We are also being charged for all kinds of protection plans and programs we specifically declined, and being charged for every other penny we possibly could be. I see other reviews reporting the same, clearly this is a common practice here.
This was all on my wife's plan. I switched to Verizon years ago for good reason. She will be doing the same as soon as possible. To be blatantly lied to by AT&T and Matt R at the tune of one thousand two hundred dollars $1200 doesn't feel good. Never again. Avoid this store and that salesman.
We will continue filing complaints and negative reviews to highlight this stores deceptive business practices everywhere we can, including by Notice of Dispute through the AT&T legal department and, if necessary, by filing an individual legal claim.
We can begrudgingly tolerate and fix in time most of the additional charges we were lied to about. The $35/month for 3 years for a tablet that was advertised as free except for one time taxes and activation fee, a total of $1,260 is absurd and theft. This is not up-selling, this is robbery.
