I almost gave three stars, but after taking another look at the photos of the work done by August, I decided to stick with two stars.
I had originally contacted August to replace my roof and solar system, but I found out that our solar panels had to be removed and reinstalled by people specifically certified to handle that brand in order to retain their warranty. However, since August also provides chimney services at prices more competitive than those quoted by dedicated chimney places, I decided to have August replace my chimney caps and spark arrestors.
Of course, after the work was completed, I discovered why their quote was so low. The spark arrestors look so terrible that I thought that they reused the original ones instead of replacing them. Upon closer inspection, I'm pretty sure that August did provide new spark arrestors, so that was good.
However, the spark arrestors look like they were fabricated in a high school metal shop and painted with a turkey baster by someone in kindergarten. And the chimney caps appear to have been spray painted by my drunk uncle with half a can of Krylon.
To their defense, there's nothing in the contract about "neatly" fabricating and painting the replacement parts. It appears that the new chimney caps and spark arrestors will be functional, but the visual impact is unfortunate since my partner and I were looking forward to getting our first house fixed up and looking nice before moving in.
The positives are that August provides detailed photos to their customers of the work performed (which served to further highlight the shoddy workmanship in my case), and the technician who replaced the chimney caps was very nice and informative.
