My husband and I have been bringing our daughter to Ms. Erskine for almost a year, as she came highly recommended by our pediatrician. I have to say, as all parents do have some skepticism at first, bringing our child in to Barbara was the best thing that we could have done for her. Within a month she was already beginning to speak and formulating two to three-word sentences, and slowly beginning to hit her milestones that often come at 3 (close to 4) years old.
She is now 4.5 years of age and is finally being able to connect with others (including my husband and I) on a level that she was not able to before. We are still attending therapy sessions with Ms. Erskine and continue to make strides with our child. As parents, we were unable to view the world through our daughters eyes but thanks to Barbara we are finally able to do so. She was able to identify that our child had a spatial processing disorder that just meant she couldn’t fully understand the information contained in sound.
SPD can occur infrequently so that individuals can have no problems processing different sounds one day and the next day, they struggle to make sense of the sounds that surround them. Our daughter views the world like pieces in a puzzle, by teaching her how to make sense of those pieces visually and audibly has allowed her to view the greater picture. I am grateful for everything that Ms. Erskine has done for my family and giving my daughter the gift of speech by enabling my husband and I with the resources to do so.
