This is a gem of site. 1) The battery is one of the best preserved of all the gun batteries on the mouth of the Columbia River. 2) It sits on top McKenzie Head which is significant to the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition as its Clark's first viewpoint of the pacific ocean. 3) It offers a great view even today (given that, thanks to the jetty, sand accretions have moved the ocean back from the base of McKenzie Head).
