The battery itself is just a "tunnel" at the top of the hill. It's an interesting piece of history. It would be awesome in the fog.
The slog up the hill from the small parking lot at the end of John Muir Dr is steep. There are trails and a stairway to use.
It seems to be a favorite place of off-leash dog owners. I visited mid-day on a weekday and it was crowded. I was accosted by several less-than-controlled (though friendly) dogs. If that's not your thing, avoid this place for sure.
It's not going to be a place for solitary nature contemplation. It's busy, and the dogs are everywhere, with their humans yelling after them quite often.
