The store was pretty empty. We knew precisely what we came for. Picked it up off the shelf (last one!), and headed to the cash register to pay.
We spent fifteen minutes driving to the store, two minutes picking up the product (a Ninja mixer), and almost thirty minutes checking out.
Not what you think. There were zero customers at the cash registers. None.
The problem was the coupons. You see, Bed Bath and Beyond have been bombarding us with coupons for several weeks now. We usually discard them. We only shop for something when we need something. Unfortunately, our good old mixer died prematurely, and one of the coupons was pretty attractive for precisely that. So we went to the store.
The problem was that the coupons came in emails, and the Wi-Fi network at the store was DOA, so we were struggling with the website. (Speaking of website, it’s pretty confusing, and I’ve been shopping online pretty much since e-commerce started many years ago).
The cashier called her supervisor, and another bystander cashier along with the original one tried to figure it out. We were patient the entire time. Finally, they were able to apply the coupons, and then my wife found a gift card. It took some time for the register to read the gift card as well.
We got a very good deal on the Ninja, so good that the thirty minutes we spent trying to pay for it were entirely worth it.
