Popped in for the opening today. Beautiful store. Excellent selection. Friendly employees. And they kick out stupid dog owners who think it's ok to bring an animal into a grocery store (newsflash: it's not). Hooray! Welcome to the hood.

We've ordered sandwiches from here about 5 times in the last month since they opened (about $125 in sandwiches fwiw), and while the sandwiches are tasty, they have messed up something or other with the order for 4 out of the 5 times. On the first occasion, they gave a totally wrong sandwich with our sandwich's label (it was chock full of onions, which my wife hates but begrudgingly ate). On two occasions, we asked for no jalapeños on the Davidson sandwich, and got jalapeños both times; on another occasion they switched the labels between our two sandwiches. In general, the store is very nice and has good stuff (we love the Del Popolo pizzas in the fridge section), but as many people have observed here in the Google reviews and IRL, the prices are quite high. I'm sure there are good reasons for that (local produce, Polk St. rent., etc.), but $4 for a single bell pepper, and $8 for a small clamshell of blueberries, is a little tough to swallow. Besides these issues, we're happy to have you in the neighborhood.

Generally speaking, I love Bi-Rite. But Polk St. disappoints me because it has no butcher shop like the old Real Foods had. And, to make things worse, the cut meats they do offer all come in shrink wrapped plastic wrap; yuk!! We’re way past the point where we all know that crap has to go. Very disappointing.
