I’m sad to say that this was an absolute disappointment and waste of time. I was looking forward to visiting and experiencing an off the beaten path tourist attraction that was highly recommended on instagram and online.
I’m glad this experience was free and donation only because I would be upset if I had paid for tickets in advanced and showed up to the museum.
The shack style museum looks very cute and inviting when you pull up. The parking lot is small, but there were not many cars when we pulled up so this wasn’t an issue for our family.
When we stepped foot into the museum we were met with an ungodly amount of heat despite the 65 degree weather outside. It was difficult to breathe and our family had to immediately ditch our sweatshirts.
It was also too crammed inside. It is a claustrophobics nightmare with a narrow hallway that snakes into a slightly wider room.
The main artifacts on display included bigfoot/yeti pop media and toys. It was momentarily nostalgic to see the collection but not what we were expecting. The museum was dusty and the items on display had a lot of water/sun damage making it difficult to read or see what things were.
When we turned the corner we did not notice the man sitting behind the counter until he interjected about a donation jar on a table recommending we donate to help further his research offering up that some people put in $2, $5, or even more per person. Disappointed and embarrassed we decided to leave.
What a joke! On Sunday, June 30 (2024) I called before I drove up and a recorded message came up indicating the hours (1 pm-5 pm) and that it was open Friday through Monday only. But when I drove to the museum (which was clearly after 1 pm), it was closed. Also, the hours on their website don’t match what their recording says. And the hours from the recording clearly didn’t match my experience in the field.
Save your time and don’t bother going here. They work off donations so the motivation is presumably not there.
