Blakely Rock is a special outcrop at the mouth of Blakely Harbour with outstanding views of Seattle. At high tide it is very small and rugged. At low tide it extends a small shell beach to the north-west which makes it easier to access by watercraft. To the south is a deep channel, yet to the north there are hidden submerged hazards so beware. There used to be a large stone carved yoga figure on this site, but it has since been relocated. I loved it as a welcome home to the island deity and I miss it.
The island is a bird sanctuary so please try not to disturb the flocks you see as you visit. Many variety of birds congregate, feed and nest here. The sea-life is abundant as well, with common sightings of porpoise, seals, sea-lions and schools of fish. I have visited by Stand Up Paddle-board, canoe, sailboat and motorboat. I know someone who swam here, but it is not recommended.
This is pure nature with no amenities. Tread lightly, watch your step, and marvel at what nature has to offer you in your stillness. Enjoy!
