Called in for pickup near closing. Attendant was super helpful finding my order and helping figuring out a glitch with my debit card. Courteous and definitely on her game even near closing. She’s a good asset.
The food on the other hand was one star quality. I’m from the East coast and I realize there’s going to be differences but a calzone with no cheese warrants a call to the calzone police. For 20.00 the calzone was about 8 inches.
Piping hot because it was wrapped in a foil pouch. The condensation from being in the pouch results in a mushy dough. The dough was not pizza dough but something else that was tough, coated with an odd tasting olive oil, and sprinkled with corn meal. Three pieces of Italian sausage, no ham, tasty mushrooms (seven shrooms) a scant collection of red onion, and four Roma tomato halves was the contents of the calzone. They grilled it and then put it in the dough pocket. The weight was from the dough. Not the contents.
The menu clearly stated the contents and it was accurate (except no ham). A calzone with no mozzarella, ricotta, or provolone clearly screams for a recipe overhaul. Adding insult to injury, I requested ricotta as an added topping for 2.50. If it was added I didn’t see any. The obligatory sauce that was included for dipping was not marinara. It was close to tomato paste. No seasoning. No sugar.
Pizza. Taking a hit for the team - I ordered a slice of cheese pizza. Near closing it’s been sitting there a long time. The crust tasted like prefabricated sheet crust. The sauce a bland tomato. No oregano garlic or basil. Noted no edge. It was flat with no evidence of a cornicione. Disappointing but I knew it was a risk.
I’m conclusion: the staff I met was very helpful and the place looked clean. The food was below expectations and not of value for 20.00 for a calzone. Best look elsewhere to spend your money or scrutinize the menu and keep your expectations low. The calzone police has been notified. I shan’t be a returning customer. My first and last time there.
