Brookdale is not vegetarian friendly. Have to cook in my room with no dishwasher or garbage disposal. Rent goes up significantly every year. Good up keeping of the building but still needs improvement.
My mom has been an independent apartment resident at Brookdale RC for about 2 years now and although the transition was at first challenging, she is very happy here. The staff genuinely cares for the residents and gets to know each individually. The activities director is responsive to requests and has great activities for the residents.
During the COVID pandemic, Brookdale has been absolutely phenomenal! The safety protocols and procedures have been implemented with fidelity and there have been extremely minimal positive cases which is testament to the safety protocols and procedures that have been followed. My mother has tested negative each time she was tested and now she has had both vaccinations!
During this time when residents had to remain in their rooms and all-community events were cancelled, many could have felt isolated. The activities director (Jessica) and her team have done an amazing job of providing door to door activities, activities within county guidelines and special activities on special days. I remember on new year's eve, the dining staff dressed in black ties and distributed steak and lobster to each resident! All holidays were made to feel special with something different - goody bags for Valentines, Halloween, flags for 4th of July, etc Special decorations for Hanukkah and Christmas to name a few.
The director, Grace, has been great with communicating and making sure that all safety protocols and procedures are followed with fidelity - thus, the safety of the residents have been and continued to be ensured.
From the front desk, Pat, Manny, Ana, and all, to the kitchen staff, Adane, William, et al, to the Activities team , to the team in Assisted Living, Lilibeth, et al. to Administration, Grace, Monica, and Sixto...I am so grateful for keeping my mother safe and happy. As my mother ages, she is not the easiest to get along with...Brookdale, has a genuine heart of understanding and making sure that my mother ages with grace and dignity; helping her feel at home and loved every day.
Thank you, Brookdale!
At the end of this difficult year, I started thinking about what brought us to California, i.e. our daughters, and how fortunate we have been to be at this retirement home.
Brookdale, Redwood City, may not look like the most glamorous and elegant building you may encounter, but what it lacks in luxurious rugs or elegant surroundings is made up by the love and care that their staff members provide for the residents.
The most important proof of this gentle and loving care, is the fact that we have had hardly any COVID in our place. It is a difficult task when dealing with seniors who may be very stubborn and set in their ways, but, with consistent instructions and consistent following of protocols, the local Brookdale has managed to keep it at bay.
Upon reflection, living here has brought us peace of mind and a chance to recuperate our health. Leaving behind the chores of housekeeping and cooking and taking care of all the innumerable details that owning a house entails, has lifted lots of stress from our lives. Certainly, not having to deal with snow and winter, has been a welcomed change for us, and an added benefit to living in California.
During normal times, the community has very good facilities to occupy residents such as a good-sized pool, a Fitness Center, and an activities program. Also the Dining Room staff constantly strives to improve its offerings and service.
I sincerely recommend Brookdale in Redwood City for anyone who wants to have a peaceful an healthy retirement.
