Almost didn't write this due to the food being great, but poor service can ruin even the best meal.
We visited Smog City at 5:30pm on a Wednesday. It wasn't busy. The menu had no prices. When I asked, I was told tacos were $5, mulitas $7, and a taco combo plate $13. My order totaled $16.50, which seemed high. The receipt later showed $15 plus tax. When I questioned this, the cashier advised that asada was more and the owner was condescending instead of deescalating the situation, making patronizing remarks, and telling the cashier he didn't need to explain himself. He even claimed this was their first negative experience in 5 years. It was literally over $2 and could have easily been remedied but his immaturity and inability to understand how the customer is right, ultimately led to this escalating.
After requesting a refund, the owner struggled to find my order in the system and eventually offered cash. He then gave me the food anyway but insinuated I was at fault for inquiring about the pricing and overcharge.
Another couple joined us and experienced a 25 minute delay with their order, which was deemed lost when inquiring with the team and needed to be re-fired.
The food was solid, but the owner's alpha attitude was uncalled for. He handed me his card, suggesting I find them on Yelp, and later sarcastically wished us a great night as we were leaving rather then let cooler heads prevail and coming by to see how everything was an to apologize for his ego.
FYI looks like they don’t have a permanent address in Redondo anymore as their POS system says Gardena (see photo)
Buddha Boys Tacos catered our rehearsal dinner and even two years later I have friends mentioning how good it was. We first had their tacos at Smog City and fell in love. My wife and I bonded originally over a mutual love for breweries and we have certainly had our fair share of food truck/stand food. They take the cake for us. The owners are an extremely sweet couple who were the life of the party during our rehearsal dinner/welcome party, even splitting duties to bartend and make killer jalapeño margaritas. They were such a hit that they’re also catering my Sister-in-law’s wedding.
I truly never review anything, but these guys deserve every bit of those 5 stars.
Buddha Boy Tacos was our 2024 wedding caterer, and also our bartending and dessert service - yes, they are a triple threat!! And they completely blew us away!
We heard about their catering service from a friend and tried their tacos at a local pop up. Immediately after meeting Alexis and Marcus—and trying the food—we knew we wanted them on our special day. They had the best energy and took a genuine interest in us and our vision for the wedding.
From that point on, they worked closely with us to create a personalized menu that suited us and our guests. Alexis was so good at making the planning process as painless as possible by making recommendations, pitching ideas, and meeting us multiple times at the event site. We got to try our apps, main course, and even cocktail options prior to our event.
Their presentation on our wedding day was just beautiful, the food was delicious, and our guests are still raving about the churros! The bartending service was equally impressive. The bartenders were fun, efficient, and crafted some of the best cocktails we've ever had at a wedding (we might be biased).
It is clear that Buddha Boy Tacos takes great pride in their work and goes above and beyond to exceed expectations. We could not have asked for a better experience and highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-notch catering for their event. Support this local South Bay small business and you will NOT regret it!
THANK YOU, Alexis, Marcus, and the rest of the team, for making our wedding day unforgettable! :)
