I got a wool coat second hand from a friend of mine and brought it in to be cleaned. She hadn't worn it in a while so it had been hanging in her closet and smelled stale, not moldy or dirty, just a stale smell that needed a fresh cleaning. She also had a cat so there was cat hair on the coat. I went to Capitol Cleaners for the first time and asked the lady specifically about the type of cleaning it needed. I described the smell and showed the cat hair and she said they'd use a lint roller for the hair and as for the smell "as good as it would get". I was also told one price of $17 plus tax and when my husband picked up the coat he was charged $20 plus tax. When he got the coat home to me, it had less cat hair, but was still covered, and it smelled exactly the same. Not faintly or similar, but EXACTLY the same. Almost as if she lint rollered it and then never put it through the cleaning process. I could have lint rollered it at home. When I took it back to talk to her, I had it still in the cleaning bag with their ticket and my receipt attached to the hanger. I started out very kind and told her I had 2 concerns, the main one was that it smelled exactly the same and wasn't cleaned. All she kept saying was "it's cleaned, it's cleaned" and "we do our best, it just needs to be cleaned a few more times". I asked if they would do it again or give a refund because it's the exact state of smell as it was when I dropped it off. She refused to clean it again unless I paid again and she refused to refund my money, saying it's "a service job and they have bills to pay". I agreed and acknowledged that they are a business, and that also depends on providing a quality service to customers and if something is not done satisfactory, to do something about that. Then I addressed being charged more than I was told it would be and she said "it's a big coat with lots of hair, it costs a lot to clean it" to which I explained I wouldn't have minded if it costed more, but I should not have been charged more than I was told it would. After going round and round a couple times, finally she grabs 3 dollars cash from her cash register and throws it on the counter in front of me and says "it's not about the money", but she still refused to refund me for the cleaning. Meanwhile, another customer came to pick up his shirt and while she was arguing with me she hopped over to get his order and his shirt wasn't even in her computer system. They are not an organized business and that reaffirmed my concern that she likely forgot to even put it through the cleaner after she was done lint rolling my coat. At this point I'm clearly not getting anywhere with her and told her I'm putting up a review and not coming back, and that I wish she would do something about a complaint, either with a full refund or a courtesy re-clean. After relaying to my husband who was waiting in the car, he went in to talk to her as well and she just kept arguing to him that she's "been there for 32 years and no one is ever happy but people make mistakes but it's a service business and they have bills to pay", and she asked him not to make a review against the business. I understand they work hard and have bills to pay and may have been a more successful business in the past. I am not one to send back food from restaurants and throw a fit, but I do believe in paying for a service and receiving that service done well. If there is an issue, the business should address it, however is best fitted. I am very disappointed with my service here and will not be going back and when any friends ask for a dry cleaners recommendation, I will strictly say "do not go there".
