Capitol International Market is truly one of the most well attended neighborhood markets I've ever shopped in. It's a great surprise, a "Seriously?!" kind of appeal.
This market is located adjacent to an Apodments apartments and across the street from juvenile jail, btw. That makes dropping off the kids easy as you and mom grab some snacks, a box of cereal and some wine minis, turning an ordinary Monday evening into something wild and highly recommended. I certainly suggest you get your goods here at Capitol International Market in any event.
I had thought it was a Mexican market for some reason, perhaps it's something to do with the exterior. It caters to many and most provisions within and the prices are competitive, some items fare less and certainly it stands out as a wonderfully decorated, almost Alpine in vibe. A very traveled decor and you'll see such subtle and tedious attention to your patronage as you scour the atmosphere too.
Two things really jumped out at me very noticeably and unexpectantly after the first two visits. One being that this store is probably the most strikingly pristine little market of which I have never seen such attentiveness. Everything is labeled, every individual unit, in fact. No guessing and the rows of goods are ridiculously perfect, organized, inline and matching labels as if there is to be a general inspection of some sorts. That harmoniment is also seen in the string of small flags that decorate the space above and make for some fun eye candy, each a different national flag as you try to remember what you needed to buy or us that only I? You can't help but feel a traveler's bug here amongst the flags, breads, crackers, meats, cheeses, many bottles of wine. You'll find staples such as oats, beans, rice and a small display of fresh, whole fruits, sublime quality and photographically clean. The green apples and orange were delicious from my first walk through. There are also chicken tamales, lean, hearty, generous and very filling too. I understand soon the market will have fresh made sandwiches which I absolutely know are going to be super delicious. That's just the standard which is vastly evidenced here at Capitol International Market.
The second thing that really adds to the shop is the shopkeeper Ben. Ben is a gentleman and his pride as keeper and host makes for a modern yet elevated visit inside. This store is curated excellently and you'll agree, it's a welcome stop in-between downtown and Capital Hill and a mini market with many quality items you wouldn't find in a convenience store for receptions or entertaining at home, such as the cheeses, wines, crackers and meats.
I always look forward to seeing Ben and talking for a moment, he's extremely accommodating and this shop is incredibly fortunate to have his eye on the place as he does it all as a real credit to the ownership! Please stop by and support this market too. Thank you!
