Chateau Senior Living: The Villa

My mother had a stroke, and my dad went on hospice the same month. A bed became available for my dad at The Villas at the same time mom was released from rehab. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and caring. The atmosphere was homey and the food was good.home

I advise to not send your loved ones if they are in need of experienced, well trained memory and dementia care. This is not the place for anyone with difficult behaviors, any aggressive behavior, or many of the difficult very common behaviors of alzheimers or FTD. They will advertise that they are equipped to handle more challenging patients, but in my personal experience the staff is not. If your loved one is quiet, easy, and has a basic routine to adhere to it is a good place. However, you will risk having to move your relative and causing unrecoverable decline if your loved one needs very experienced dementia staff to assist them.

This is from the perspective of (1) a volunteer musician at this place and (2) an experienced health care lawyer. The care seemed good from what I was able to observe in playing at the larger place one time. The second time I played at a building with fewer residents and a higher acuity level than the first. The staff person stayed in her office doing paperwork most of the time, different from their other venue and contrary to what I typically see from staff in the 10 years I've been doing this. Now I'm told I'm not welcome back because I asked someone who was talking loudly while I was playing, with the other residents glaring at her, audible to staff who did nothing about it. So I stopped playing and asked her to please stop interfering with my ability to play my best and the audience's ability to enjoy it. No one said anything at the time, but now I'm told the noisy person has dementia, can't be held accountable for her behavior and I should have let her go on ruining the concert. Judge for yourselves, but one person IMHO regardless of their inability to control their behavior, shouldn't be allowed to disrupt things for everyone else. The resident left after I made the comment, but I've played plenty of places where unruly residents were taken back to their rooms by staff. Not fair to the other residents to allow one to interfere with their enjoyment of entertainment.
