I paid Angel (Jose) Chan of Lake Chelan Landscaping Service a 5 figured amount for landscaping my yard. He is a hard worker but his character and honesty is something I question. I paid for a 400 square foot patio made with pavers and he attempted to short cut by filling in 80 square feet of this patio with gravel. I confronted him about it and he did the work as I requested. He tends to "cut corners" on the job in order to save time and reduce cost to himself. Secondly, I paid for a fence that was to be made with pressure treated wood. Again he attempted to short cut by finishing off the fence with wood that was not pressure treated. Once again I talked to him about this, and he acted “put off” about it. Thirdly, I wanted and extra 80 square foot of pavers added to my patio in the backyard. He charged me 2300 dollars for this addition, which works out to be 29 dollars per square foot. Angel said initially it would take 2 pallets to do, but he later agreed that one pallet was sufficient when I pointed out that it was only 80 square feet. He changed his mind to one pallet. I find that Angel tends to inflate the amount of materials to do a job in order to overcharge the customer.

I also gave specific direction that I wanted a gate to open inward. The next morning I check the gate and he made the gate open outward. I talked to him about his mistake and again he acted “put off” as if it was my fault. This was one of many examples of him not following directions.

The quality of his work is sometimes poor. For example the edge of the patio was irregular in places. This was a result of up to a ½ inch gap between the pavers and the edge of the patio. This sloppiness is a result of trying to do the job as fast as he can so he can start a new job the next day.

The irrigation timer was installed on the outside of the house, later to find that the warranty is voided since it must be installed inside the house. He chose to put it on the outside of the house because it was more convenient to him. Do yourself a big favor and choose another person to do your landscaping besides Jose (Angel) Chan.
