I was excited to support a local business, instead of buying online. The staff in-store was helpful enough. After reviewing several appliance options, I ultimately placed my order over the phone. I received an invoice with the model numbers and noticed that the price was even lower than what we had discussed. Pleased, I placed the order with my credit card.
When the installation team showed up at my house, it turned out that the model numbers did not match the actual models we had been discussing. While the invoice was correct, the models were not the ones that I had been discussing with the sales person.
I called the sales person immediately and explained the issue. He was happy to swap out the items, however he no longer wanted to offer me the price we had discussed, which was higher than I paid originally, but lower than what we now wanted.
At this point I was in a bind. I didn't want to pay the $400 extra that he was now asking of me, plus I had already paid the instal guy $150 and I had taken the day off work in order to be their for the delivery.
I contacted them and expressed my disappointment and opened the conversation for resolving the issue. However, they were not interested in solving my problem in a way that wouldn't end up costing me more money.
In hindsight, I wish I would have just ordered it online. The price would have been cheaper, I wouldn't have had to pay tax or shipping and I would have been sure of what I was buying when I placed the order. The customer service that I thought I would get from purchasing from a local retailer was completely absent. Lesson learned.
