Coast Cleaners damaged a suit I borrowed from my cousin for a funeral. It was fairly new, until they put a hole in the coat. I went in there to complain, David--not his real name he said because his real is difficult to pronounce--quickly went from calm to very defensive and accusative.
He argued that I was the one that put the hole in the suit, or that my "car door put the hole in the suit" as I was climbing out, or at least the chair I sat in did. Mind you, i didn't wear the suit to the cleaners; i brought it on a hanger there, and before then, i didn't notice any damage. I showed him and his wife the hook end of their wire hangers, which appeared as if they were cut to length using wire cutters from a set of pliers. They were sharp. He told me to prove to him that it was not damaged prior to the clean, and that I cannot prove to him that they did it.
Ridiculous experience to say the least. He, many times, insinuated that I was scamming him. He said his two businesses had never had an issue with damaging clothes. David apparently lied. I'm not alone.
On Yelp, another customer named Bettie posted a review stating her silk dress was ripped by Coast Cleaners. I found this review prior to making the complaint. When I initially brought up Bettie, he tried to play dumb by saying he has no idea what I'm talking about. Hilariously, after this argument lengthened, he slipped and started talking about it recounting specific instances. At that moment I said "I thought there is no Bettie." He stood silent for a few seconds knowing he'd slipped.
David offered to repair the suit in the end. HAH! Which my brother who accompanied me foolishly accepted. They did a shoddy job at best. And after the cleaning, the suit looked worst than ever, with some threads of the fabric sticking out, as if someone took a needle and plucked out a few threads. They probably did it to make the suit appear more used, perhaps in preparation for litigation. I am not a cynic, but this is the worst experience I've ever had with a cleaners. What's worst is he refused to refund me the money for the cleaning.
I have uploaded a couple of public photos on Google review. One is the sleeve of the coat that was "repaired" and the other is the plastic garment bag on the backside that was nearly torn by something sharp--luckily it did not pierce the bag and tear another hole.
To sum: BEWARE! To anyone who cares about your clothes, DO NOT go to Coast Cleaners. They are completely oblivious to the concept of accountability. You cannot, you mustn't, promote businesses that do not foster accountability and customer service.
