Came here looking for some comedy relief, it was local talent night. They cut the skits a little too short so makes it hard for them to get rolling sometimes.
Check in was easy and the guy at box office was friendly! They do seal your phones up during the performance so you can’t have them. So I also have no photos to share in my review.
The waitress was very nice but the ushers cram you in right and are not friendly. The seats are extremely uncomfortable and ours were loose and wobbly so my girlfriend was sliding into the person next to her the whole time. Seems they let weed get smoked in the back room too as you could smell it when I went to the bathroom!
There is certainly room for improvement here!
Love the talent that I've seen here but unfortunately had disappointing experiences in how they have previously handled accommodations for my disability.
My phone acts as a medical device (through an app on my phone that communicates with my glucose monitor and insulin pump) which I have to interact with during meals and as needed. (Each person is required to purchase at least two items, so unless I want to spend $10 on water, it's necessary for me to give myself insulin using my phone.) Upon entering a recent show, I had informed the staff and they informed other staff working of my situation and they described what I was wearing so everyone working was informed. During one of the comedian's sets, I had pulled out my phone to use my medical app and as I was about to give insulin, a staff walked up to me and said I needed to leave. I informed him that I was using it only for medical needs and he apologized. However, the whole situation interrupted me and my partner from hearing a part of the comedian's set, and was completely unnecessary when I had informed staff prior of my needs and they had made it a big deal to let everyone else on their team know. I have been to many shows at both Comedy Works locations and most times, it has been made a bigger deal than necessary when I explain that I need to use my phone for medical reasons and unfortunately, I don't feel like I can comfortably use my phone for that when I need to without the assumption I'm using it for other reasons.
While I understand the concerns regarding recording of shows, I hope there can be greater awareness surrounding the need for individuals that utilize a phone for medical needs and allow them to do so without feeling self-conscious, even after their disability and needs have been announced to everyone working. On a real note, who is distributing illegal audio recordings of Comedy Works sets?
I contacted Comedy Works about my recent experience but never heard back.
