Tyrelle is amazing, five stars- fantastic customer service, so embarrassed I had to call several times for help with parking and location of the entrance but he was so kind patient and helpful. The hotel is adorable and the rooms are super cute and clean, very satisfied. Parking is funky, it’s across the street and finding the entrance was not stupid proof but you know— thanks Tyrelle!
Update-
Room: Perfectly as expected. Room clean and comfortable. Spacious. Nothing to complain about.
Hotel: Clean, well cared for, loved the staircase downstairs.
Staff: Friendly and helpful, Kurtis in the restaurant was also amazing and deserves 5 stars. The valet by the front door was also friendly and helpful. The gal I spoke to in the morning was also friendly, patient and empathetic when I checked out and expressed my frustration about the $40 parking ticket. She said management would follow up with me Tuesday. I haven’t heard anything about my dispute. So lack of follow through there. Zero stars management. Update: management did contact me once they saw my review, they were kind but said they couldn’t help me with the problem, which is fine, I paid it by then anyways. They said they would share my suggestions with their staff to see if it would help prevent costly tickets for their customers in the future and I hope they do.
Downside- parking situation is miserable, unclear and inconvenient. Due to a miscommunication and poor signage we accidentally parked in the wrong parking lot and received a spendy parking ticket. I was very surprised that i got a ticket because I thought I did everything correctly and I called to verify I was in the right spot but again, there was a miscommunication, NOT their fault. When I went back in and spoke to the gal at the front she said that they weren’t the Mariott (where I parked the signage said Mariott) but the hotel is literally called Courtyard MARIOTT, so it’s not crazy that I would think that is where I’m supposed to park, I had no idea that the parking garage was inside ANOTHER Mariott and we were supposed to park in the convention parking lot, and although in hindsight it says this in small un highlighted letters at the very bottom of the parking pass you hang on your mirror, if you don’t know to look for that text, you won’t see it. To be fair Tyrel did say to park to the RIGHT, but When I was looking for a spot in the convention side someone-a stranger asked are you looking for mariot parking and pointed to the sign, so automatically I assumed-duh, that’s where I need to be, I must have misunderstood his instructions, because that’s what common sense was telling me. When I got back to the hotel I was like wait, will they know for sure where I parked? I called the front desk, and was told as long as they had my license plate it would be fine. So I figured I was good to go! Also, if you have any kind of handicap you will want to pay extra for valet because the parking garage is across the street. I’m not lazy, this didn’t bother me, but it bothered my friend who has terrible knee injuries and had a very hard time packing her bags through the other hotel, across the street, to check in, to the elevator, etc. This isn’t anyone’s fault, it’s a miscommunication, but the lack of signage and outrageous parking fees-you could do better if you wanted to. No way this only happened to me. You have (a variation of) the same name!!! Maybe work together and call up to your guests if they parked in the wrong lot instead of using it as a way to generate more income. It would take one call from one hotel to the other and save you from losing some stars on your reviews or return visits. Highlight the parking pass at the very least, say “when you get over there it will confuse you, NOT THE MARIOT PARKING, even if that makes more sense to you” as you give them the pass, treat us like we have never been there because we haven’t! I’d rather be over directed than pay a parking ticket. Add more obvious signage in your part of the parking garage to make things more clear.
Currently staying at the hotel for a week.
Internet dreadfully slow. Faster Internet costs $4.95/day (9Mbps to 25Mbps). Update: although I booked high-speed, every day I need to call Internet support because the high-speed which is really not very high speed requires rebooking daily even if you choose to establish it for a week. Extremely frustrating and very time-consuming.
It's 2024 and I have not spent extra for faster Internet for years. The two other local hotels I have stayed in many times are Silver Cloud and Murano, and neither force clients to pay more for high-speed Internet.Feel like I'm being nickel and dimed repeatedly here and this is not a cheap discount hotel. Other hotels mentioned above are fine in all respects.
Since I'm staying for a week, I got upgraded gratis after a conversation with Dimitrus and a long wait and phone call with their tech people, albeit with minimal improvement; no one seems to know how at the front desk. They could've given me a code, but decided not to.
Basic breakfast in the Bistro restaurant, minimal quantity for about $20. Quality was fine.
Room is comfortable, the windows are not soundproof as claimed. Bedding comfortable. Since I'm on the top floor, it's relatively quiet. Still hear noise from the street. In Europe, they've had soundproof windows for at least a decade. Marriott does not want to invest the money in this property.
Not many restaurants in the area.
The lobby store charges for everything outrageous prices, example: simple small BLT: $15. Should be $7. Basic items that people forget are at the other locations mentioned gratis. Courtyard Marriott Tacoma, please treat your captive customers with dignity, we are paying plenty for your hotel rooms and expect not to be taken advantage of. Really wanted this to be a good experience..
Will revise my review as my week progresses. I was really hoping it would be better and think it could be if they put some effort into it. High-speed Internet should be gratis, and they shouldn't rip people off at their store. There are no convenience stores in the area.
Had a burger for dinner. The service was excellent. Curtis was the waiter/server. But the food was really awful. I inquired and learned that the hamburger meat was frozen as were the french fries. $17 for a frozen patty? Really again felt like being ripped off. The only saving grace was a friendly and kind server.
I hope someone reaches out to me from the hotel to make recompense. This is going to be a very negative review. If no one reaches out to me from the Courtyard Marriott downtown, my future stays in Tacoma, about the one week every five weeks, will be at Hotel Murano or Silver Cloud. I hope others who read this review also draw the same conclusion.
I was really hoping this stay would work out.
I'll start this review by saying I'm a raving Marriott customer. You normally get great accommodations and service. Its hard for me to write this but c'mon, you guys need to do better.
1.) Elevators have been down for the last three days. I've had to take the service elevator to get around.
2.) The restaurant we had breakfast at had one server. Service was super slow. I asked for a cappuccino on the regular menu, the waitress said their coffee machine has been down for months and they cant offer anything but black coffee. I get it, not a huge deal but either fix the machine or take it of the menu.
3.) We got back to our room at 7:30pm and our room didn't get cleaned. We called to let them know and they brought us towels and sheets to remake our bed ourselves. They didn't even offer to freshen it up for us. I'm paying $350 a night to clean my own room?
4.) We have received a 6:00am wakeup call every morning. This would be greatly appreciated if we would have asked for it and actually wanted to wakeup at 6:00am on Sat and Sun. We asked to cancel it and still got another wakeup call. What in the hell is happening Marriott?
Pretty easy things to make sure they work or are being done and this would be a 4 start review.
As it stands, I wont be returning nor any of my employees that visit our headquarters here in Tacoma. There are currently better choices for less money. At some point, the points stop mattering. I'm at that point.
