Ricky was the craftsman who did the frozen ice straightening on my hair. I can only say it's perfect. I have unruly but thinning hair (the thinning being due to an autoimmune condition). He managed to straighten it without exposing its thinness. I've had Japanese straightening done for over 20 years now and when Reiko from the Grooming Place left, I thought I wouldn't find a replacement. I was wrong. Ricky did a perfect job, taming even a very difficult patch. I left it entirely to him and gave him no instruction except when he asked for it. He is the expert after all, and not me.
P.S. The place is not easy to spot. In fact, we missed it several times as there is no obvious sign, but just a half open door. I came here as the hair salons in SF are still under COVID restrictions. I observed that the salon is clean as the typical Japanese salon is, and felt relatively safe healthwise.
I had the pleasure of getting my hair cut by Naoto, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Naoto was professional. He made sure to ask about my hair type, my lifestyle, and my styling preferences before starting the cut.
