As a Curtis Homes owner since August 2022 I have delayed writing a review to see if the company could redeem themselves by putting forth communication efforts and sub repairs over the last 60 days. Suffice it to say though, lack of response from the team, unannounced sub visits for fixes, and delayed fixes have made this building experience a nightmare.
While our home in photos may look beautiful we have experienced everything from significant plumbing issues (leaks, water pressure of 50 PSI or lower if more than one faucet runs at a time, to even the wrong tub being installed twice). Now 60+ days after closing, we continue to try and remedy issues from our cabinets being painted the wrong color, issues with painting quality throughout the home on the walls, pocket door not installed correctly, and trimwork that was fixed that remains unpainted due to lack of subcontractor response. For subcontractors arriving unannounced, please be prepared to leave work if you have the ability to or risk the contractor not showing up for another few days or worse weeks.
Note: For plumbing issues, A&E has been responsive once engaged on the issues but with the amount of issues we have experienced specific to plumbing walk through and quality inspection by the builder of plumbing and level surfaces is minimal at best. It is still unfathomable to me that the tub was actually tested and not pre-identified as incorrect when the water is turned on and splashes the lip of it so much the water sprays outside along the wall.
Additional items to note include subcontractors showing up with no supplies asking to use homeowner's ladder, tools, etc. or worse arriving without additional materials assuming that there was more onsite at the location.
While I understand the Columbia Gorge is a desirable location as is Bend, when paying the price we do for a new home their is absolutely zero effort put forth for quality and follow up once the check is received and house is closed. In addition- please note finished grade and landscaping is not included at all in the price of the home (while this does not effect my rating it should be identified for transparency to potential buyers in the Dalles).
Appliances were also included in my home purchase however since move in there has been a massive scratch on the fridge door. Rather than replace with a new fridge without defect a "warranty" replacement door was ordered and as documented above to date, no door has arrived nor does the appliance rep reply with updates other than "its a supply chain issue." Update 1/17/2023... Still no replacement refrigerator door.
As nice as their management can be and as understanding as I feel I have been as a new homeowner with Curtis Homes, their lack of follow through and inconsistent replies as well as, "its not us its the subs" takes the joy out of building. I wish prior to purchasing there had been a more up to date and honest review to reflect what doing business with this company would have been like to prepare myself for the continued daily, weekly, and monthly project management conversations on this home.
Two stars are provided in this review due to the fact that I did enjoy their interior designer Kaitlyn Richards who was very helpful with color choices and styling as well as continued responsive even when issues were not hers to solve. Another star is provided for the fact that once Curtis is onsite they are happy to try and assist with what they can however know this often feels like you are chasing down a team member to help or offering to pay cash to subs who are onsite for a new build to finish a job they should have done correctly the first time when they were at your house.
I will continue to update as we work through the extended one year warranty process and hopefully experience better results though in discussion with neighbors this review appears truthful to their experiences too and they also wish someone had written a novel of honestly about their Curtis Homes Building experience.
