My husband and I have had a wonderful experience working with Laura and Jeff to get our puppy. We had lots of questions and had great communication with them - they don't always get back immediately, but they do get back to you and it is best if you try to call them instead of emailing. When we went to their open house this weekend to pick out our puppy, they were wonderful and let us interact with all of the puppies that were available. We got to meet the parents and hear more about their practices. It is obvious that they love their dogs and want to ensure that their puppies go to good homes. I saw several reviews mentioning the $250 non-refundable deposit and that they "didn't get their money back" - this is a clearly stated policy and common practice. Also, you can switch your deposit to a new litter, but if you are wanting to be at the top of the list, then it may be a few months, which is fine with me; they are not just cranking out puppies left and right 24/7. Also, they have a strict payment policy and deadlines for which you have to completed payment or you forfeit your deposit. This again, is totally fine with me, because as a responsible dog owner who is committing to another puppy, I should be able to follow these rules. We have had a wonderful experience getting to meet our puppy and can't wait to pick her up after she goes through one of their training programs in a few weeks.

My fiancé and I decided to get a lab for hunting/companionship. We looked into this place and picked out the two dogs we wanted to have an offspring from. Luckily those dogs had a litter on the way already! Put down an immediate deposit and we got first choice of our female. Jeff & Laura were very helpful, kind and professional. They gave us a tour and talked with us at length about all of their dogs history/breeding. They have always responded to our emails quickly and have been helpful. Our puppy we picked out, we got to pick up at our convenience(after the right age of course) and she is quite definitely the BEST LAB WE HAVE EVER HAD. She is beautiful, has a silky, clean & healthy coat. She is so incredibly sweet, loving and wants nothing but to please us- she was so easy to train and loved the challenge of every class we took her to. She is very polite, but high energy and has become an amazingly smart duck hunting dog who loves to play with her German Shepard sister and loves us unconditionally. Never had any health problems except for typical lab behaviors(putting everything in her mouth like a toddler). We will definitely be getting another pup from Desert Winds when the unfortunate time comes, which will hopefully not be for many years to come since she such a healthy almost 2 year old. Dog breeding is not luxurious, and it doesn’t make you unbelievably wealthy. The “conditions” these dogs were in are very typical and are not as some reviews I’ve read on here have claimed them to be. I think everyone should decide these thing for themselves- don’t always trust an angry customers review!

We put 3 deposits down, got 2 of the dogs about 9 & 11 months later. 3rd dog, after I pretty much said I would take in Female, took forever to get a dog from them. Never got the 3rd from them. Took months after this to get my deposit back. on the 3rd female, every excuse, false pregnancy's, to all the puppies were born dead. My I 1st put my deposits down, pre-covid, then the prices went up quite a bit, so pretty sure they sold all of the females to others who paid more, but deposits were after mine. 2nd puppy we got is half deaf, which I mentioned to them as well. Vet confirmed her ear drums did not form correct at all in one ear and partially on the other. Not the greatest experience. Still looking for my 3rd girl somewhere else. Not hear again.
