BART wonders why the riders are not coming back? I have a suggestion, it is not so much fear of covid as it is fear of crime. I have heard this from many people but BART doesn't seem to get it. So until BART puts in more attendants, small business, and life in general at the stations prepare to ride along with the homeless, mentally ill, etc. If the fear factor and empty stations don't bother you too much than BART is really a great system.

The Downtown Berkeley BART station is a great way to get to/from Berkeley. It's located only a couple blocks away from the western side of campus. It's right in downtown Berkeley as the name suggests so there's plenty of stores, restaurants and coffee shops. There's also a coffee shop inside the station itself. It has two entrances which is convenient in case there's a lot of people. Overall, it doesn't get too crowded, but obviously will during times like Thanksgiving break and end of semesters, when many students leave for home. I've used it to go to Fremont, Pleasanton, and San Francisco, among other places, and it's definitely great in terms of comfort, accessibility, and safety. Get a clipper card which will save you a lot of time from purchasing a ticket at the station itself.
