To assume a patient(my wife) is a heavy drug user and stating that to the patient, you've already passed judgement without anything but a glance. hyperemesis gravidarum is known to cause dental issues if the condition is serious enough. The lady that examined my wife made her feel uncomfortable and even cry at the acusation. She said something along the lines of people that have your kind of tooth decay ARE drug users. My wife explained to her that she was really sick during her two pregnancies and threw up a lot which meant she couldnt hold down food. The Lady continued about drug use and said that people with her condition should stop using drugs. She continued with explaining about resources that would help her stop using drugs. My wife walked out and was crying due to the Lady not even considering what she was saying. Hyperemesis gravidarum is a serious condition for very few people. Sadly my wife was one and because of it was made to feel like she was labeled something she wasnt.
I felt judged and unwelcome. Being a mother to an SN kid is not easy, and hearing from your dentist saying that they're kicking you out cause you're a bad mother and that you should get counselling is a bit much to tolerate on any given Tuesday.
But I can tell you this: in a year and a half that we were patients, NOT ONCE did Dr Schmidt sit down with me and shown me my daughter's x-rays and explain what I was seeing. So sure, maybe I'm a bad mother for losing patience with my daughter once in your presence-- but you're a bad dentist.
