I used Edge Hair and Makeup for my Bend wedding in June 2023. After 9 months of trying to cool down from this experience, I'm still so upset with the results of my wedding day hair. Other brides should know this stylist's limitations. Lori did a nice job with my makeup; that's my 2 stars. But other brides, PLEASE notice the major red flag that I ignored: there are practically no close-ups of any hair styles on her Instagram or website. Almost everything posted is a far-away, wind-blowing, veil-on shot. You can't actually see the hair styles. I'm stupid for ignoring this, but Bend just didn't have a ton of options.
Lori was unable to execute the hairstyle I requested from the first trial, and she should have just said, "Look, I can't do that and you should choose a different style or choose a different stylist." Inspiration photo attached. You can see my wedding day hair looks nothing like it, from the curl shape to the flat, frizzy mess at the back of my head. (Photos taken within 20 minutes of the style being "done" and then the other one is during my first dance one hour later.)
At my first trial appointment a few months before my wedding, Lori attempted to do the inspo photo twice, both times unsuccessfully. Bobby pins everywhere, lopsided, no volume. Photo attached. The white shirt is from Trial 1, and the green tank top is from Trial 2.
She said that it wasn't working because I didn't have enough hair, my hair naturally didn't have volume, etc. She said I needed to buy extensions, so I did ($100). The issues had nothing to do with the thickness of my hair, though, which as you can see is pretty thick. She used hardly any product, didn't backcomb at the crown of my head, didn't secure a base for the half up-do. Wonder why there was no volume! We had to schedule a second trial for the week of the wedding ($100).
Between Trial 1 and Trial 2, I had my regular hairdresser in Houston, TX try out the style to see if it was possible, and my stylist easily did it, without extensions. She's not even a bridal stylist. I noted how she did it so that I could share this info with Lori at Trial 2. It went slightly better than the first trial but still clearly was not what I requested, had bobby pins showing, and wasn't secure. This was 3 days before my wedding, so I can't just cancel and find another hairstylist. My hair and makeup cost $600, plus the $200 for extensions and the second trial.
So she does my hair on the wedding day, and the first time she shows me back of it, I about cried. One of my bridesmaids points out to Lori how it's lopsided, has no volume, etc. So Lori tries to fix it. Again. And again. And after the third time, and our whole timeline getting increasingly behind schedule, I just had to be like sure that's fine whatever. I should've asked her to leave and had my bridesmaids take everything out and I just wear my hair all down. But I didn't. And my hair ended up looking so awful in the photos. No volume. Messy. Uneven. Frizzy. Extension tracks and bobby pins showing. It looked like I was going to a junior homecoming dance, not my wedding. It wasn't secure and fell out immediately after my first dance, which was a regular ol' sway-and-hug dance with one twirl. I cried as the bobby pins slowly slid down the back of my head. My planner had to take it all out and fix it from scratch, and my planner and MOH pointed out how it felt like I had 0 product in my hair. Of course it all fell out.
I should've listened to my gut and canceled Edge Hair & Makeup after the first trial. If you're looking for a tidy, classic, volumized, elegant bridal look, this just simply is not the hairstylist for you. It seems most of her looks are the more tousled, loose type, which just wasn't my vision for bridal, and I made that abundantly clear to Lori. She said she could do the style I wanted, and she could not. I wish she would've just owned that from the beginning. I understand that this is her business and livelihood, and I hope that my feedback helps her change her actions in the future and consider her limitations.
