This Electrify America sits in a Walmart parking lot, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Yelm I-5 exit. It has six charging stations of varied kilowatt limits, and speed. I’ve used it a few times over the last three years, so here’s my synopsis.
Having the charging center in a Walmart parking lot is super convenient. I can plug in, do my shopping, and come back out to a fully charged vehicle. There’s also a bonus sense of security because of the parking lot security cameras. Since there are six charging stations, I don’t have to wait long, if there’s a line. Once you get to the charger, make sure it’s actually working that day. They’re fickle things and you will sometimes find one or more out of service. Rarely have I had an issue connecting my caretaker’s account to the stations using the app on iOS, it’s mostly seamless and easy. This is my go-to charger center when in the Lacey area.
If I had to suggest any improvements, it would be these. Install two or more charging stations to increase the number of charging vehicles at any given time. The Walmart parking lot is big and there is plenty of room to expand on it. Build an awning over the stations to keep users dry. Gas stations are all covered and it rains ten months out of the year in this state, so why are we not covering our charging stations? Is this meant to be punishment for not fueling the consumption of fossil fuels? Who can say? Otherwise, it’s a good charging station and one I will continue to use.
