I have only tried two classes but that was enough for me to know I will not be coming back. The studio is dirty and the teachers are passive aggressive and judgmental.
The facility feels very worn with obvious wear and tear, water stains on the ceiling, worn cubbies, cracked mirrors, peeling paint. Okay, not great but also not a deal breaker. What I really can’t get past is the dirt on the floor. Not just in the lobby but in the actual heated room. Dust bunnies, stains, and serious dirt between gaps in the ‘special tatami-style’ floor. Ew.
The attitude of the teachers was the final straw. I have practiced yoga for 13 years in a variety of styles, across multiple states, and with so many teachers. I am a certified yoga teacher. I know how to authentically move my body and I believe strongly in the power of our own body-awareness as a guide in a movement-practice.
In the Hatha class I chose an alternate posture to avoid a knee injury and was verbally ‘corrected’ for choosing a safer more authentic asana for my current practice. In the Vinyasa class I received more passive verbal corrections but still felt judgment for flowing in a way that met my body’s needs.
I do not subscribe to the Bikram rigidity and aggressive cueing style and I certainly cannot safely practice in a place where moving in authentic ways is penalized. I will not be returning and warning people away from this studio.
I love coming to this studio!
After the first couple of classes I have become addicted. The Instructors are all wonderful and caring people who want to help you succeed at pursuing your goals. The studio is clean and has a relaxing atmosphere.
I highly suggest anyone considering trying hot yoga for the first time to take the first step and come to this studio, you won't be disappointed!
