We approached Gaskillrose to build a house. They first told us the following
None of this was true. They ask you for a deposit within a week and delay giving you a budget under the assumption that the budget is refundable. Soon after your deposit has expired they give you a budget greater than your personal budget and they keep the deposit. Phil's response to this was "I'm sure they can lend you more money"
They took over two months to create a budget that had multiple TBDs in it and it was half hand written. It was obvious they were rushed. They often tell you their architect is busy. The architect will make unwanted changes to your plan and you waste time trying to correct. He also makes changes to the plans without confirming it will fit in the lot which leads to more floorplan changes towards the end. Phil is extremely difficult to understand. He is not focused on quality as you may expect from a custom builder. He doesn't mind delivering a basic house and have you make changes soon after you move in. You frequently see their clients making changes to their landscape soon after move in. I asked Phil about this and he laughed. I almost felt like he was laughing at their clients for not having enough money to complete the landscaping during construction and they had to do it afterwards.
Amy is easier to understand and I enjoyed working with her but unfortunately she was rarely available, didn't return my calls and was not present during the budget meeting.
Adrienne is nice but she is in sales and I'm sure that's part of customer service.
It's best to be honest and say everything upfront instead of wasting everyone's time. Gaskillrose should say, we require a deposit which we keep to pay for creating a budget, our schedule is limited and we take several months to create a budget.
