Let me start with I love the concept and we did enjoy our time there. It was my boyfriend, I and our two dogs in a double bed cabin. The beds, pillows and bedding were very comfortable! We stayed in the first loop to the left when you enter the campgrounds in Bruce. It was a bit close for our liking to the other cabins but it wasn’t terrible. The second night we stayed was a Sunday so we had the entire loop to ourselves which was great.
We travel with our own food and water so we didn’t buy anything from them. There was no toilet paper when we got there. Luckily we were driving into town so we were able to pick some up. They had a well stocked kitchen except for cooking utensils. We didn’t have a spatula for our eggs but made do with a fork. The outdoor space looked a bit sad, with dead branches everywhere. I think this place has a lot of potential with some cleaning up in the area.
The space inside would have been perfect for us if we could have picked up the table and folded it away. The table was a bit wobbly and in the way. We appreciated the recommendations of places to visit nearby, and dog bowls/towel/treats. We didn’t know if the treats were free so we didn’t take them.
We took quick showers and tried to only use cold water in the sink to prevent the hot water from running out when showering. Also if you want to use the FM radio we figured out if you take the radio out and put it on top of the cabinets then you’ll actually be able to pick up a few stations.
Overall, it was a fun getaway! We only had to walk a short distance outside the campgrounds for a view of Mt. Adams and the tip of Mt. Hood. There were also some cute cows along the walk 🐮
Exactly as described.. a getaway. About 2 hrs out of Portland. NO CELL SERVICE as stated. Went for 2 nights. Next time will do 3 days.. as a takes a moment to truly unwind.
I love and appreciate all the details!! You really don't need anything, other than food. There's a small restaurant in town 5-10 mins away. The cabin is VERY clean. Thank you!!! Bedding very nice and comfortable. My son will have forever memories and is already asking for another adventure. we appreciated the cow view.. lol in all serious. It was very cool! The stars were not as brights as I expected. The aurora had to have been amazing.... someone please post pics!! We were wishing we were there..
Okay - real review Bring Firewood!! Super speedy there and not enough. Bring cast iron pan. I think they should provide. Bring a throw blanket.. just because it's cozy. Bring your own s'mores kit cause there's are super spendy. Bring your own coffee & tea & creamer. (I think this should be included) Reminder... this is a quiet zone... good to know... I took a 6 year old and felt I kept hushing him - not to disturb the neighbors quietly reading. Which... was difficult in the forest coming from a condo in the city, if he can't be wild camping.. then where? Fire is to be out by 10pm .... this was hard for me, because, I want to sit til 2am and stargaze. Bring binoculars if your into the sky.... cause the satellites were crazy cool!
The town store had everything you could need, just 3x the price. Which..... is kind okay with me. Because, these small towns really depend on us tourists to $ help. Firewood in town was less expensive and DRY. Can't wait to go back!! Def will.
Look for a promo code online and book directly through Getaway. I booked through airbnb... cause that's where I found them and paid extra fees. I know better next time and was all well worth it.
The mountains are beautiful. We didn't hike. oh and they have a bunk bed set up for kiddos or families. Also didn't realize and will book next time. Great place to have your dog. Love the whole concept!! Thank you again for all the sweet details and great communication.
Our Mount Adams Base Camp!
We went back and forth deciding if we were going to snow camp on the mountain, make a camp at Cold Springs, or camp at Morrison Campground for our Mount Adams climb. We eventually decided on Getaway Mount Adams Cabins. These Getaway cabins are ~ 1hour 15 minutes from the trailhead, so not "nearby" from a climbers perspective but we chose to use them as our basecamp and these are the reasons why.
We drove up to the Mount Adams trailhead the afternoon before our climb (before we checked into the cabin), so we got a good feel for the road...including its narrowness and the erosion berms (high clearance vehicle highly recommended). This is important as we knew we'd be driving in the dark to start climbing in the dark. To assure you can find a parking space, plan to be at the trailhead by 3:00 a.m. at the latest from the cabin (and you may still get one of the last spots). We also knew we'd be exhausted after our full day climb and would want a shower. We had three people in our party, one couple and one single, so we could easily share the cabin making the cost affordable (can accommodate 4). With an electric stove and fridge available we knew that the post-climb dinner could be made fast and require little cleanup...and best of all was the comfortable queen beds that helped us get a few hours of quality sleep before our climb and gave us all a very comfortable sleep post-climb. And when you drive from the trailhead to the cabin and back you will have some beautiful photo opportunities of the mountain that you don't get staying up on the mountain. We're experienced climbers and this is the first time we've considered "glamping" for a mountain ascent. This is not an opportunity that comes along often...so consider it and treat yourself. We're glad we did.
Now about the cabin....Dolores. It was quiet, clean, fully stocked with linen/towels, beds made, and ready on our arrival. It's a tiny home but was easy to maneuver around and comfortable. I really like the picture window next to the bed. You feel like you have your own private home in the woods. No cell service...and you really don't want it here anyway. Enjoy fully off E-grid. You can enjoy the silence or bluetooth into their radio and enjoy your own music. There are even a couple of radio stations that come in clearly. The shower...was....great...complete with shampoo/conditioner/body wash. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water for the three of us. The kitchen has dishes, silverware, glasses, and a few pots/pans. We make a very specific rice dish pre-climb that requires a 4 qt pot, so we brought our pot, not knowing the size of the pots that were available (we didn't think to ask). We are glad we brought our pot as theirs were smaller. We could have split the dinner into two of their pots if we had too, but glad we had our own....something to consider.
We travelled from out of state and I don't know that we will be in the area to stay in this cabin again. That's why I've made an especially detailed review. This is a really nice place for a getaway for any reason and/or a base camp for Mount Adams adventures and I encourage you to consider it.
