Great people matter. Just took my son to buy him an early Christmas present - a decent acoustic electric Martin or Taylor. To be honest I totally understand and have experienced how hit and miss large retailers like Guitar Center can be in particular when it comes to service. In fact, we visited a couple of months ago and the guy on duty that time knew nothing about guitars and totally wasn't happy to be working at the Guitar Center. Not sure whether it was because of what we looked like (maybe assumed we weren't there to purchase something decent) so totally blew us off. This time was totally different. The young man who helped us today (I think his name was Jose Lopez) is an actual music lover (I think he mentioned he was a drummer first, guitarist as a hobby) and knew enough about guitar to be extremely helpful. He was super proactive, listened to what we were thinking about and brought us a number of options that we hadn't considered before we got to the store. I have no idea whether we got a "great deal" but the guitar he recommended sounded great, was well within what I was expecting to pay and he highlighted a few things that mattered to me and my son and never pushed aggressively (I totally get he has to offer other items and options). I'm guessing most of his incentive $ comes from selling extended warranties so I actually but the longest one he offered just to thank him for being really great today knowing we'll probably never use it. I think Guitar Center is still owed by a PE or hedge fund which makes finding great people even a bit harder (arguably) and I have no idea how long Mr. Lopez has been there or how long he'll stick around but he was great today and my son is super happy with his new Martin dreadnought largely thanks to him.

Erich was so freaking helpful! I went in a few weeks ago to buy P.A speakers. I asked so many questions and he even did a few speaker and sub configurations for me. He went above and beyond.
