We have a 4-year-old lab mix named Tarzan that is a rescue from Mexico. We got him when he was 1 year old. He was surprisingly well behaved when we first got him where we could walk him and take him places without much hesitation. But he quickly became attached, protective and became reactive to many things.
He was reactive where he was selective on which people he liked and all others he barked at for extended periods of time. He barked and lunged at bikes, skateboards, motorcycles and anything in motion. He pulled on a leash, barked and lunged at other dogs except for my brother’s dog. We would have to cross the street when walking him when we saw another dog, and/or turn around to avoid confrontation. It started to really affect our quality of life with Tarzan which ultimately impacted his quality of life. We had done basic dog training with the traditional big box training facilities prior. However, this did not address Tarzan’s reactive issues and we began looking elsewhere.
This is when we found Sogi with Heaven Sent K-9. We went to a consultation with Sogi at her ranch. She quickly identified Tarzan’s problem areas and explained why he was the way he was. She brought out 5 other dogs, one at a time, from low energy to high energy, and showed that Tarzan could be around other dogs but it required training for both Tarzan and us as his owners. He did not bark once at her other dogs as she talked with us which we had never seen before. We decided to do the 2 week board and train for reactive dogs with her. She gave us a tour of her ranch and the boarding facilities, and they were so clean and all the dogs were so happy there. We felt extremely comfortable leaving Tarzan with her and knew we were in the best hands. When we picked him up from his 2 week training he was walking with another one of her dogs on a leash when we first drove in to her facility. She showed us the progress that he had made and then spent an hour going over how to train us on continuing to train Tarzan the right way and what things to look out for and how to correct them.
We have met with Sogi at Fashion Island since to continue Tarzans training and get him more comfortable in settings with lots of motion and other dogs. He has been doing so well and we are so grateful to have found Sogi. She is amazing and genuinely cares about your pets best interest and how to ensure that both you and your pet live your best life. I just wish we would have found her sooner. We will continue to refer everyone we know to go to her.
