A little known, and not particularly well documented respite from travels along highway 101 at Humboldt Hill, this vista with breathtaking views of the more rural, and relatively less industrialized region of Humboldt Bay is a popular rest stop for travellers to grab a quick nap, as well as a cozy butte from which many local folks often choose to lunch in their cars.
From atop the offramp in this smallish parking lot that can also accommodate 4 or 5 semi trucks, one can admire the natural settings of the Bay including parts of the wildlife refuge, the settlements of Manila and Samoa across the bay, ships transiting to and from their berths, and portions of the town of Eureka just two miles to the north.
The egress of the parking lot dumps onto a frontage road that in one direction becomes the northbound onramp of the 101 freeway with a larger shoulder where semi trucks can park along, while the other direction leads into the community of Humboldt Hill and a return loop leading back to the southbound onramp for the 101.
