Surprise 1: this is a micro Ikea, not the sprawling warehouse you're used to.
Surprise 2: you can't buy many of the things on display here, just a few.
Surprise 3: a handle was missing from a cooking pan (Kavalkad, 2-pan package) I bought here. The picture indicated the handle would be included, but it just wasn't.
Surprise 4: When I returned to the store, receipt in hand, with the defective product, they said they can't do refunds or returns here.
But I bought it here, I said.
I have never heard of an Ikea not taking returns, I said, and this product is obviously defective. You didn't tell me when I bought it that you don't take returns here.
There is a sign on the door, they said. I go to check. There is no such sign in the door. None at all!
They didn't notify me, there is no sign above the register, and there is no sign on the door, so it is entirely reasonable that I would assume this Ikea like every other Ikea (and virtually ever major retail store in America) would take returns and give refunds for unsatisfactory or defective products, especially ones bought at this literal location!
No we can't do that, they said. The WEBSITE says we don't do returns, they said.
The WEBSITE! I bought it IN PERSON! Right here!
Surprise 5: The two clerks I spoke with were brusque and dismissive, not apologetic for the defective product nor the stupid, unreasonable, unforeseeable returns policy that they didn't notify me about.
Spent more time trying to return the stupid item than it was worth. Annoyed by the defective product, annoyed by Ikea's refusal to refund a defective item purchased in this very location, and annoyed by the rude manner of the employees. Won't do business here again.
