Make sure you tip! So I received my lunch at my place of work today and I got more than just my meal. Apparently, it is required to tip the delivery driver (employee of Jimmy Johns) to have your food delivered in a civil manner. It does not seem as if the delivery charge covers good quality service. It was my understanding that drivers were no longer paid a pittance for their service and no longer rely on tips to live. I was wrong and I apparently wronged the Jimmy John’s delivery driver.
The young woman who brought in my food was not going to let my lack of tip remain unknown. The first words out of her mouth were laced with contempt as she intended to shame me in front of my co-workers. She made it known, in the front lobby where clients could also overhear, that I did not tip and she wanted me to come on down to sign for my meal so she can confront me over this required tip. When I responded to my co-worker I was currently on a phone call and unable to sign at the time, the outspoken driver decided to lay on the contempt even more in front of my co-workers and clients. Luckily her pathetic attempt to shame me in front of staff was laughable at best. However, it did upset me enough to contact the manager.
I have a feeling this quality employee is not going to face any disciplinary action for the way she conducted herself in my office. At the end of the day, we all have our own opinion. I don’t feel like a tip is required for someone doing their job by delivering my food for their place of business. Maybe I need to rethink my position, but today I walk away with a bad taste in my mouth. No recourse was offered, which makes me believe the manager believes a person working as a delivery driver at Jimmy John’s is entitled to a tip while doing their job. At least I get to choose where I spend my money in the future.
Terrible experience! All 4 sandwiches were wrong. Manager made us physically open and prove to her that each was wrong!
We did not have time to wait for them to make 4 new sandwiches, and they said the best they could do otherwise was a free bag of chips or a pickle! No refund, discount, and she was rude about it.
