The staff do not care and if you try to get to the bottom of it, they ignore you, dont call you back and Norma Meraz will call you a stalker for caring about your ill family member. I handed them the LEGAL power of attorney documents, giving me authority to speak on my sons behalf concerning the medication Humira, and Norma made that a bigger issue rather than the incompetent staff that NEVER did the prior authorization needed for my son to get the STARTING DOSE Humira. Norma prescribed it 6/23, and if it wasnt for me giving a dam, it would've taken longer..It took until 7/19 for them to figure their mistake the whole time! The prior auth was finally done and my son got the starting dose 7/22.. and Instead of asking pertinent questions about how my sons doing.. does he need to be on Prednisone still or not, since Humira takes a while to kick in, non of that, Norma tells my son (I do work fulltime or I wish I was there)that I'm a stalker for finding out that after so much frustration, unanswered phone calls and terrible attitudes from the staff including the manager, the professional GI specialist Norma makes the appointment about how it's not cool for me, the mother, who has legal poa to ask about my son's medication, that in the end, it was the incompetence that took me through hell, and I find out that if they had done the correct prior authorization on the right medication and dose in the first place, then it wouldn't of been a big deal and you could've spared us the grief. Instead of Norma and the staff apologizing for the stress they caused us, I'm called a stalker.. I had every reason to be there because they messed up. I had requested a different GI specialist but no one there is accepting and the only reason we stayed with Norma meraz was to get my son on Humira, and not to hear her resort to name calling her patients family members names. Very unprofessional and rude. Id rather drive to Seattle for a real GI specialist staff and provider for follow ups. Thanks for nothing Norma and her incompetent MA Sandra and everybody there.. except the male MA who finally figured it out on 7/19, saying "specialty clinics usually automatically include the starting dose along with the maintenance dose" well obviously not all specialty clinics, not Optum. If only you would've taken the time to see that. learn to do your jobs already, and if you dont like to care about people then leave, spare us the freakin trouble!!

I LOVE Dr. Maher, he was very thorough and extremely kind to my mother. She was diagnosed with NASH recently and he has helped us balance her medications and symptoms. However, his support staff is HORRIBLE! I called because my mom's feet had swollen up horribly and that is a sign of liver failure. I had called the office TWICE and they finally got back to me the next day and told to go the ER. First of all, the ER will not be able to do continuing care and we do not need a diagnosis, we have that. Not to mention this is expensive for my mother! This is not patient care, this is patient brush off. I get it, our health care system is horrible. But my mom is an existing patient that needs care and they couldn't get her in until November? What is the ER going to do, tell her to see a specialist?? I love Dr. Maher but there has got to be better systems and protocols in place for patients.
11/25/23 I add to this because the care gets even worse! My mom had MRIs done every 6 months to monitor her liver. She had one done the first week of December 2022. 3 weeks later she was experiencing pain and went to her PCP. They pulled up her MRI results and found what looked like lymphoma. They started the oncology referrals right away. 2or 3 weeks later they contacted me to tell me we needed to schedule her an appt with an oncologist. They did not contact us for 6 weeks! If my mom hadn’t had pain we would not have known. My mom ended up passing away from the cancer on January 23rd 2023. Had they contacted us right when they got the results which was DAYS after the MRI maybe things would have turned out differently. It was a very fast growing cancer.

I was scheduled for a colonoscopy because my mother is dying from colon cancer. A week before my scheduled colonoscopy, I called to get information on time and check in and was told it was cancelled and the dr wouldn’t be available for 3 months. I took time off of work for this clearly and no one thought to tell me that this was cancelled. It has now been 6 months and I have had no calls to reschedule.
