Overrated hotel with boutique tendencies. Be prepared to hand over dollar for not a lot in return. This was my first stay in a Kimpton branded hotel and the whole experience was underwhelming especially since I had stayed in the Holiday Inn on Nob Hill and had a fantastic stay.
There is no parking, only valet parking at $70 per night, ouch but necessary, fine ok. The room we were given didn't have the premium feel I thought it would have. The TV came on twice at 3am showing the "Welcome Guest" page! Then the second night we were there the TV simply would not work, the engineer couldn't get it to work either! The supplied kettle didn't switch off when boiling which is pretty dangerous, the window had a cloudy look to it and the record player was a complete gimmick, awful sound from its pathetic speaker, the knackered needle didn't help either.
Breakfast took ages with warm bread for toast and no free refills. Luckily being so close to lots of amazing restaurants we didn't have to eat dinner in house.
I'm sorry IHG, I've stayed in many of your hotels but I was not wowed here at all. Close to Fisherman's Wharf, that's all the benefit I could see.
I honestly think the hotel offers excellent value, at a reasonable rate. The staff were super friendly, and the hotel room was extremely well cleaned. Loved that they had a classy record player in the room and a bunch of records to lend out.
The hotel charges a destination fee, of which I am usually heavily unamused of, however I did thought they they offered a good value for the credit.
Guests should also be aware, that a few rooms are on the ground floor. However, the staff was very honest about this, and even offered to have a look at the room before taking it, as I was checking in way ahead of the official check in time and it was the only room available at 9am. Therefore I do not think this was an issue
Overall great experience, decently priced rooms and super clean. Would definitely come again.
