I’m writing in regard to my husband who has been at Kendred Hospital since June, we have had several incidents in regarding to the nursing staff for the hospital (weekend night shift). My husband was so upset, next morning a daytime nurse could see he was so upset, she asked Patience representative to come see him. Miss Harrell introduced herself, before seeing him she read his background because I could tell when she called me and told me that she had spoken to my husband about his complaint. she took the time to listen to him very carefully and was very patient with him (he had a stroke he has aphasia) He explained to her what happened the night before, to the (patient representative Miss. Harrell) was able to understands everything that he was saying. We have also had some problems with nurses on weekend at night in regarding to keeping him clean when he has bowel movement, and how they treat him horribly. She reassured my husband that they take these complaints very serious and that she was going to get to the bottom of it. She has made my husband feel like he has a voice, where before he met her, the nurses that he had problems with made him feel like he didn’t have a voice that he was told he had to do what they said, and nobody was going to listen to him. Miss. Harrell reassure him he does have a voice. I have spoken very several times Miss. Harrell in regard to things I have seen or heard over the phone that should’ve never happened and she’s also listened to my complaints. I don’t know what we would’ve done if we did not have her to hear our voices. Because this hospital specialty in what my husband needs. They have an amazing wound team; they explain everything every step they are doing. They take time to talk to me as well. My husband has to have PT,OT, speech, they are amazing too, they cheer him on, and his speech has improved so much. Me as outsider looking in, their biggest problem at the hospital is their weekend night nurses. where they don’t care about the patients or don’t want to take the time to understand what the patient is saying or trying to say. There has been several times on the weekends. My husband has needed a nurse where he doesn’t have his remote control to call or he’s had bowel movement were needs to be cleaned up and he’s been in it for a long time, and no one has come. Also being in pain, Where I have try calling the nurses station where it rings and rings and rings until it goes dead several times where nobody answers the phone. If it wasn’t for him having a cell phone and me staying on the phone with him to see how long it takes for a nurse to come nobody would have known. Because I can be there 24/7. I contact Miss Harrell about calling and no one answering. She got to the bottom of it. Miss Harrell is the most compassionate caring patient representative I have ever met. My husband has been 4 different hospitals. Kindred Hospital is so lucky to have her as their patient representative. Because I can tell you when you have a problem, and you tell her she gets to the bottom of it and she fixes it. All you nurse on weekends night shift that are not professional in taking care of your patience the correct way, if you don’t like your job then you need to find another job. I will say this kindred hospital does have some amazing nurses on dayshift during the week! If you’re going to be in the nursing field, remember the oath that you took You are supposed to be compassionate and understanding and if you do not have those qualities move on. Again, a big thank you to Mrs. Harrell for hearing my husband voice, listening to my complaints as well. Thank you for helping us navigate through this long stay at this hospital.
