[Scene: Wednesday morning shopping & Crepe adventure in South Arroyo Grande, CA.]
Craving a Crepe and near Arroyo Grande?
A amazingly hard working local lady, who runs a successful Crepe-oriented Food Trunk, has opened this evolving new shop in AG's Smart & Final Strip Mall. It is a nice breakfast, brunch, desert, snack, post-101 Freeway, or post-Weds. AM Farmer's Market stop.
The location is ideal, since it is not far from the main road that connects the 101 and Grande Ave, [ Oak Park Blvd. Exit on the 101]. It is also near the shopping along Grande Ave. including Aldi, Vons, Smart & Final, and much more. It is also worth a diversion from AG Village, Walmart, & TJ's, etc..
What is a Crepe? It is basically a very thin pancake cooked on a special Crepe pan or device. The magic happens with good fillings, toppings, and skill.
How do I know this? Well I have experience in the past making and selling all kinds of great deserts on the East Coast Carvel. Many years later, I also volunteered at some Thai Buddhist Temple events to make deserts, mainly Crepes, to raise money for the Temple. In short, it is hard work to create a great product. It can be labor intensive as well. The owner of this Crepe place seems to know that well, since she had to cover a no-show employee on the Wednesday that I happened to curiously appear, fresh from shopping at the great weekly Weds. AM Farmers Market, right out front, in their parking lot.
In any case, almost at 10:58AM sharp, I looked thru the shop's window, at the menu & hours of operation, checked to see anyone was home, and then check my i-watch. Just moments later, a kind lady changed the sign from Closed to Open [Yaaaayyyy!], opened the door, and welcomed me in.
The kind lady & shop owner was very pleasant and I was treated to personal service, since I was the first one in the shop. The interior is a cool Manga themed space and is suited to all, but especially kids. There is plenty of seating, tables, space, and even a bunch of games, such as Checkers, Jenga, Uno, and more. For those who are inclined, there is even a confortable couch to sit on. There are also some Tee-shirts and other things for sale. The owner explained that she gets repeat customers from her Food Truck. She sells plenty of Crepes at dog, horse shows, & all sort of special events, more in the Paso Robles area.
I was curious about the difference between the Bavarian cream filling and the Cheesecake filling. The owner explained that the Bavarian, her fav., was more Vanilla forward, and less sweet. I went with her recommendation, and pick fresh Blueberries as my fruit topping, also farm fresh, since she also uses the Farmers Market and local farms for ingredients.
I then watched her skillfully craft my tasty Brunch on the Crepe machine, & I eagerly awaited tasting it. The final product was a nice big fresh Crepe, filled with housemade Bavarian creme [she was hand mixing another new batch of cream], decorated with fresh Blueberries, and topped with puffy Whipped cream. While they do not yet have coffee to pair with the Crepe's as of yet, it will be available soon [as we chatted about various Coffee's including those exotic ones such as Panama Geisha, or Kopi luwak- civet coffee].
Since I was hungry, I could hardly contain myself, & wolfed the tasty treat down. It was excellent and the handmade Bavarian creme was reminiscent of the great Cremes that fill the best Chocolate Eclairs, that are hard to find [but they can be had at the nearby Mule Bakery, in little AG Village].
Since it really hit the spot, I just took a few pics for this review, thanked the owner for the great Crepe, and then continued on my merry way while doing some more shopping.
The energy gained from the Crepe provided ample Ergs to fuel me & too carry the several bags of wonderful Farm fresh food that I had bought at the Farm's Market out front...including Pearl Strawberries, Hanford, CA Cherries/ Apricots, AG Avocados, Los Osos Female Squash Flowers, and more.
Thanks Heather!
