This review is specifically about the deceptive pricing practices of Life Storage. Initially, their rental rates appear to be a great deal, with their website prominently advertising "Rent Online To Save 50% Off!" However, this is a tactic designed to lure you in with a cheaper rate with the intention of raising the price shortly afterwards. It's extremely likely you will receive a letter in the mail 2 - 3 months later like I did, stating 'Our rates are reviewed and adjusted depending on current market conditions.' It's funny how current market conditions is not impacting the 50% off deal that seems to be permanently offered on your website.
My Personal Experience Aware of potential issues, I took the precaution of calling their support line before signing the contract. I asked directly, "There is no timeline listed on your website for the 50% off deal on storage units. If I get a unit with the special, will it stay at that rate, or will it increase?" The representative assured me the rate would not go up and encouraged me to go through with the rental online. This was a blatant lie.
This practice is exploitative. By only offering month-to-month contracts, they can easily increase rates after a short period, knowing that renters are unlikely to be able to move their belongings immediately. This tactic takes advantage of the inconvenience and cost of moving to lock renters into higher rates.
It's really difficult moving your stuff back and forth, especially if you have a lot of things in a larger unit and don't have your own vehicle. I specifically chose this facility because of the pricing. Now, it's over my budget, and I'm stuck because I don't have transportation to move my belongings. This rate hike has caused significant financial strain and inconvenience.
A quick glance at their reviews reveals that I am not alone. Numerous other renters have fallen victim to this scheme. It's a pattern that clearly shows a business model built on deceit. While the staff is friendly and the facility is clean, the business practices are undeniably shady and exploitative. Potential renters should be extremely cautious and consider alternatives to avoid falling into this trap.
