Hi Derek I hope you are doing well. I wanted to thank you again for all that you have done for me and taught me. I have put a fair amount of muscle mostly because I am having fun. My doctor is ok with it, my health is good.
Just wanted you to know that even though it was years ago you still have had a big impact on my life.
I started working with Derek after he began offering sessions through my company. After an indulgent summer and holiday season, complete with my first year as a football season ticket holder, I was feeling unhealthy, out of shape, and truly unhappy with myself. I've always been athletic and fit, and in the past I felt I knew enough to keep myself balanced but it was obvious I was not managing well alone (and with age O_O).
I finally reached out for a 1:1 consultation to learn what his coaching services were all about. He was very clear on his process, gave me options, and never made me feel pressured. I decided to sign up for monthly health coaching, virtual training sessions, and some initial gut and vitamin tests to get a baseline of my health.
The health coaching was immensely helpful for several reasons:
He has coached me through frequent special events, TRAVELING and dealing with disrupted routines, tailgating strategies, a very stressful cross-country move, my obsession with eating out... pretty much anything life can throw at you! He is empathetic and attentive to both your physical and mental needs.
Some of the personal, lifelong skills I learned from Derek include - creating my "CEO schedule" where I make sure to plan my eating times and workouts;
Lastly, getting my workouts from Derek every week has been one of the best things for me. This is one area that A) I don't have time to do on my own, and B) did not understand how to do on my own. Before Derek I did the most random weight training imaginable (which wasn't consistent). Now I am so much more confident in the gym. Even though we are totally virtual, he spent time gauging where I was physically through facetime sessions and learning what my literal pain points/limitations were. He listens to your comments on each workout and continues to adjust as needed.
4 months after I started with Derek, I saw physical changes in my body that I hadn't ever seen in my adult life (see photo of my progression). My family, friends, and even strangers commented on my physique (which Derek will encourage you to document and put in a jar of "awesome")! Yes, it took discipline, but Derek always made it feel achievable.
While life continues to ebb and flow, and sometimes I am more or less focused on my health goals, I feel much more in control by being equipped and educated, and much more prepared to integrate lifelong practices to avoid getting too far off track again. Most importantly, I SEE it's possible to make the changes I want through the fundamentals of focused diet and exercise because of him!
