I was a customer of Maple Cleaners since 1996. In June of 2024 they added a 4% credit card convenience charge without notice posted anywhere. In Connecticut the law does not allow you to charge a credit card usage fee. You can only give a discount for using cash (just like most gas stations). I left and told the owner I would not come back.
I found a new dry cleaning store where the prices were incredibly lower and where they do not charge a credit card usage fee. It turns out that Maple Cleaners charges 50% more to clean golf shirts/shorts than my new dry cleaners.
Maple Cleaners lost an almost 3-decade customer over trying to charge a 4% fee when they are already charging 50% more than a competitor down the street. Unbelievably greedy. They will never see me there again.
