I met attorney Matt Kaestner in January of 2000. I had just been arrested and charged with murder. The first thing Mr. Kaestner said when he introduced himself was that he had some good news and some bad news. He said the bad news was that I was being charged with murder. He said the good news was that he was my lawyer.
I was in shock and didn’t know what to think. I was looking at life. Two of my friends had just been convicted of the murder and now I was being charged as an accessory. I quickly learned that Mr. Kaestner was the lawyer I wanted to defend me. Mr. Kaestner aggressively pursued every avenue to prove that I was innocent. He conducted a lot of the investigation personally and used private investigators as well. Although the case was being prosecuted as a gang case, Mr. Kaestner treated me with respect. He was always straight up with me.
He dug up so much information that I was being framed by the prosecutor’s witness, that he got the D.A. to offer me a misdemeanor and time served on the day of trial. Later he used the information he developed defending me to get my friend’s conviction thrown out and case dismissed.
In the last 20 years Mr. Kaestner has defended me and I have referred him to anyone I knew that needed a criminal lawyer. He has continued to deliver great results again and again.
If I ever needed a criminal defense lawyer again, I wouldn’t want anyone other than Matt Kaestner.
This review for Matthew Kaestner is about a case I had 43 years ago when I was 18 years old. The case of course has been settled and put away in the hall of records archives of decades. The outcome of that case I wanted to change and contacted many other attorneys to see what could be done. A couple told me it couldn’t be done and tried to sell me some other service they offered. All of the attorneys wanted to communicate threw e-mail which I didn’t like doing, including e-mailing them the papers I had acquired from the hall of records in downtown L.A. about my old case. I contacted Mr. Kaestner by phone and we talked for about 35 minutes and made an appointment to meet him. One of the things about Mr. Kaestner is HE answers his own calls. Not a secretary. When I have called and he was unavailable, maybe in court, he calls back very quickly. So on the day of my appointment I arrive at his office. Very swanky office in the World Trade Center in Long Beach. I thought how the heck can I afford this guy! So here comes this guy wearing Levis, pretty down to earth. We meet for about 45 minutes and he takes my case, which is pretty small potatoes case compared to what he handles regularly. Another thing I come to find out about him is he handles everything himself. Does his own legal research, not some paralegal and doesn’t hand your case off to a junior attorney. My day in court comes and Mr. Kaestner arrives on time wearing a suit that cost more then my car. Very professorial in appearance. We go into the court room and it seems every other attorney knows him. Before the judge came in, they were sitting around making jokes and seem he is well respected. Turns out Mr. Kaestner used to be a prosecuting attorney at one time. Mr. Kaestner was able to get the results I was seeking. Even on a case 43 years old. Would recommend him to anyone needing a criminal attorney.
